National Cancer Institute's Cancernet
has comprehensive information on statistics, treatment, clinical trials,
genetics, causes, risk factors, prevention, complementary and alternative
medicine, testing, coping, support, resources, literature and related
information. We highly recommend this site. The following pages may be

Comprehensive Cancer Center Network
The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has developed guidelines
for treatment of several cancers including breast cancer. These guidelines
can be viewed online at the National Comprehensive Cancer Center Network
site (left). The brochure, Breast
Cancer Treatment Guidelines for Patients - Version II,
is available free of charge through the American Cancer Society. Ann Arbor
Hematology Oncology Associates and the McAuley Cancer Care Center endorse
these guidelines. Dr.
Susan Love Dr. Susan Love
has written extensively about breast cancer, including the popular Susan
Love's Breast Book. It is an outstanding reference on all
aspects of breast care and women's health issues; however, not all
authorities share her opinions on several subjects. Oncolink
Oncolink is a comprehensive cancer site with extensive information
on all aspects of breast cancer. The section on symptom management is
especially useful and includes sections on lymphedema, sexuality, etc. Healthology:
Breast Cancer This site
provides physician-authored articles and several video webcasts for
patients. Selected topics include prevention and screening, chemotherapy
side effects, risk reduction, and psychological side effects. You will

to listen to the webcasts. The
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society's Web page is an excellent source of
information on all cancers including breast cancer.
Michigan
Breast Reconstruction This site is a consumer's guide to breast reconstruction options after
prophylactic mastectomies. It contains detailed information on surgical
options and decision-making. People
Living With Cancer This is
a comprehensive site sponsored by the American Society of Clinical
Oncology. It contains general information on breast cancer as well as a
guide for Follow-up
Care for Breast Cancer and Understanding
Tumor Markers for Breast and Colorectal Cancers BreastCancer.Org
BreastCancer.Org is a
nonprofit organization "dedicated to bringing women the most
reliable, complete and up-to-date medical and personal information about
breast cancer." There are some excellent education tools available on
this site, including a booklet designed to help patients understand their

ASSESSMENT, GENETICS AND PREVENTION
Breast
Cancer Genetics Network
With generous funding from the Michigan Department of Community Health,
this University of Michigan team assists patients in finding information
about cancer, cancer genetics, and informs patients about the experiences
of visiting a cancer genetics clinic in the State of Michigan. AAHOA is a
member of the network. Genetic
Testing for Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk
In addition to information provided on the National Cancer Institute site
(the first item in this table), information on genetic testing is
available through Myriad Laboratories,
the company that performs the tests. The
ExCel
Breast Cancer Prevention Study is looking at whether
exemestane (Aromasin) can reduce the risk of breast cancer in
postmenopausal women who are at increased risk. The local site for this
study is Wayne State University's CS Mott Center. For more information you

(Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered)
is a nonprofit organization for women who are at high risk of getting
breast and ovarian cancers due to their family history and genetic status,
and for members of families in which a BRCA mutation may be present. MENOPAUSE Menopause
This site is maintained by the North
American Menopause Society. It is devoted to promoting the
understanding of menopause. It contains useful information on dealing with
menopause without hormone replacement therapy. Facts
about Postmenopausal Hormone Therapy This
is a comprehensive site posted by the National
Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT GROUPS Breast

Breast Cancer Action is a
grassroots education and advocacy organization committed to ending the
breast cancer epidemic. The
Komen Foundation The Susan
G. Komen Foundation maintains a Web site with information on
breast cancer resources, news and events. National
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
(NBCAM) campaign promotes awareness of breast cancer issues and the
importance of screening and early detection. This site provides
